Regional Health Command-Europe Nurse Case Manager Workshop

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses and case managers who support/care for U.S. active-duty service members, reservists, National Guardsmen, military veterans and their families.

Learning Objectives

  1. Day 1
    1. Discuss differences between United States (US) law and the General data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
    2. Compare GDPR to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
    3. Summarize basic rules for consent under GDPR. 
    4. Analyze areas in which nurse case management services address the Joint Commission Standards.
    5. Compare roles in transition of care standards.
    6. Explain the importance of proper care planning.
    7. Demonstrate accurate documentation
    8. Identify and implement aspects of health literacy.
    9. Discuss at least four of the competencies cited in the CMSA definition of case management.
    10. Contrast the three distinct categories of knowledge, skills, and abilities that can be used to assess competency.
    11. Summarize the mandated training and competency requirements for Army case management.
    12. Compare the importance of training to successful performance.
    13. Summarize the process for disclosure of information.
    14. Identify instances where disclosure can occur without consent.
    15. Explain the Minimum Necessary rule.
    16. Discuss Command Notice requirements.
  2. Day 2
    1. Discuss the referral process for TRICARE Prime Remote (TPR) beneficiaries Outside the Contiguous United States (OCONUS).
    2. Describe the Supplemental Health Care Program (SHCP) waiver process.
    3. Outline the CONUS care justification process.
    4. Analyze the Inpatient Medical Management (IMM) program.
    5. Summarize the current TRICARE policy updates.
    6. Discuss overview of Remote Nurse Case Management Services.
    7. Explain the travel process and requirements.
    8. Summarize Remote Care Coordination. 
    9. Compare the three levels of the Stepped Care Model for Pain.
    10. Differentiate case management involvement at each level of the model.
    11. Evaluate options for non-pharmacological pain treatment.
    12. Comprehend the background of the A3 Tool.
    13. Explain the steps in the 8-Step Practical Problem Solving as a method for solving problems and A3 as a tool for documenting the journey.
    14. Generate an A3 through a simulation.
  3. Day 3
    1. Comprehend components of the Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC).
    2. Discuss criteria for the High Interest List.
    3. Summarize the role of the case manager for EBM, and Transgender care.
    4. Identify the key points for network referred care.
    5. Discuss reasons to become certified.
    6. Summarize general requirements and costs for certification.
    7. Differentiate between certifying entities for Case Management.
    8. Comprehend the background of the A3 Tool.
    9. Explain the steps in the 8-Step Practical Problem Solving as a method for solving problems and A3 as a tool for documenting the journey.
    10. Generate an A3 through a simulation.
