Improving Nurse Readiness for Combat Casualty Care

Program Description

Nurse preparation for deployment is an important consideration for the effective provision of combat casualty care to achieve optimal patient outcomes in the Multi-Domain environment. At the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, nurse scientists and collaborators have worked over several years to inform nurse leaders and medical planners about the individual clinical readiness needs for nurses and others assigned to combat casualty care roles. This presentation aims to describe this program of research, as well as to introduce opportunities for nurses to influence combat casualty care and combat-related patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, optometrists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, dentists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe unique opportunities for nursing influence of combat casualty care in the Multi-Domain environment. 
  2. Identify mechanisms for developing individual clinical readiness. 
  3. Discuss the impact of USAISR nurse-led/-involved efforts on future nurse readiness efforts across Military Health System.
