Program Description

DHA Public Health Essentials of Health Promotion is an online workshop series designed to equip learners with foundational knowledge and skills in public health promotion to support efforts that facilitate behavioral and environmental changes to improve the health and well-being of military communities. Learners will become familiar with core public health promotion concepts and develop/refine competencies and practical skills in areas such as community health assessment, planning, evaluation, and health communication. The course consists of six self-paced modules in JKO VCLASS, accessible on demand. For each module, learners will view recorded narrated presentations and have access to downloadable presentation slides and other supplemental learning materials. Public Health Nurses, Health Promotion Project Officers, Health Educators, Health Care Providers, Dietitians, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Fitness Professionals, Social Workers, Behavioral Health Professionals, Employee Assistance Professionals, Commander’s Ready and Resilient Council members, worksite wellness and others involved in promoting evidence-based, public health practices.

Learning Objectives

  1. Comprehend core concepts and frameworks within the field of public health promotion and their application to military health, resilience, and readiness.
  2. Assess the health and wellness needs and priorities of military communities.
  3. Utilize various data collection strategies for determining health promotion needs in a target population.
  4. Plan comprehensive health promotion programs and services tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of military populations, with consideration of (not limited to) cultural, social, and environmental factors.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of health promotion initiatives within military communities using appropriate evaluation methods and metrics to assess outcomes and determine areas for improvement.
  6. Develop, test, and assess health promotion communication strategies and deliver messages clearly and effectively to diverse military audiences using a variety of channels and formats.

ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers may receive a maximum of 6.00 hours for completing this Course activity.
