Program Description

This activity is designed for healthcare personnel to discuss the Department of Defense implementation of the new Southern Hemisphere Influenza Vaccine. The content discusses the spring 2020 implementation schedule of the new vaccine to Active Duty, DoD Civilians, Guard/Reserve, and Contractors assigned, deploying, or traveling to the Northern and/or Southern Hemisphere who meet the criteria for Southern Hemisphere Influenza Vaccine administration. Reviews and discusses the new Southern Hemisphere Vaccine product, travel requirements for vaccine recommendation, patient screening and administration, storage and handling, vaccine ordering, and proper documentation in the medical record.

Target Audience

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Pharmacy Technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for all other attendees.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the policy for the use of the new Southern Hemisphere (SH) influenza vaccine
  2. Differentiate the differences between the Southern and Northern Hemisphere vaccines
  3. Distinguish the circumstances when a Southern Hemisphere influenza vaccine may be recommended
  4. Outline the processes for Southern Hemisphere influenza vaccine administration, including changes in the screening form, the competency assessment, and standing orders
