Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Physician Assistants, Optometrists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Kinesiotherapists, Healthcare Executives, and other health care professionals who support/ care for U.S. active-duty service members, reservists, National Guardsmen, military veterans and their families.

Learning Objectives

  1. Outline the limitations of conventional medicine and treatment modalities i.e. disease management vs. health promotion + predominant pharmaceutical intervention for symptom management.
  2. Define the field of Lifestyle Medicine (LM).
  3. Explain the various contributions of each of the components i.e. the ‘pentad’ of LM.
  4. Discuss what resources exist in the field of LM and what courses you can take to educate yourself about practicing LM.

Flight Medicine/Preventive Medicine Physician, United States Air Force Academy Colorado Springs, Colo.

Capt. Regan Stiegmann, USAF, MC, is a Flight Surgeon who focuses on Human Performance Optimization via Lifestyle Medicine. Since 2017, she has worked at the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs where she has successfully stood up one of the Air Force's first Lifestyle and Performance Medicine consultation services within the Operational Medicine Flight. She completed her Preventive Medicine residency training at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD in 2017.  Dr. Stiegmann has served as an at-large member on the Board of Directors for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, as a Co-Founder of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine's Professionals in Training (PiT), and as the Lifestyle Medicine chair for the American College of Preventive Medicine-Young Physician Section. In July 2018, she became Vice President of Medical Affairs for a digital therapeutics startup OWaves. She received her medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM) in Parker, CO including a military medicine honors track.
