DHA Public Health Essentials of Health Promotion

This course is designed for DoW public health, prevention, force health protection, and healthcare professionals seeking to improve their health promotion competencies. This self-paced online course equips learners with knowledge and skills to improve the health and well- being of warfighters and military communities in areas of practice like community health assessment and improvement, program planning, evaluation, and health communication. The course is comprised of six online, on-demand, self-paced modules developed by subject matter experts from multiple DHA Public Health-Aberdeen directorates. Requirement
Complete the activity and pass the posttest in JKO VCLASS to claim CE credit. The access code to claim credit for the course will be provided upon completion of the course in JKO VCLASS.

Accessing the Course
This course is housed on the JKO Learning Management System VCLASS (Virtual Classroom) platform. Complete the following steps to find and join the course:

  • Log-in to the JKO Learning Management System (CAC required).
  • On the JKO homepage, select “VCLASS,” which is located immediately below the banner at the top of the page.
  • Select the “Enter Classroom” button to enter VCLASS.

  • Promotion,” and select the “Search” button.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, athletic trainers, registered dietitians, dietetic technicians, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Comprehend core concepts and frameworks within the field of public health promotion and their application to military health, resilience, and readiness.
  2. Assess the health and wellness needs and priorities of military communities.
  3. Utilize various data collection strategies for determining health promotion needs in a target population.
  4. Plan comprehensive health promotion programs and services tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of military populations, with consideration of (not limited to) cultural, social, and environmental factors.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of health promotion initiatives within military communities using appropriate evaluation methods and metrics to assess outcomes and determine areas for improvement.
  6. Develop, test, and assess health promotion communication strategies and deliver messages clearly and effectively to diverse military audiences using a variety of channels and formats.

    By attending this program offered by DHA J-7 CEPO, participants may earn up to 3.00 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Qualified Education hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation.
