Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for nurses, social workers, and case managers across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE).
  2. Explain how ACE contributes to readiness in service members.
  3. Explain how ACEs affect child development and lifelong health.
  4. Identify practical intervention strategies for military families.
  5. Identify problem set, friction points, gaps, and solutions for Patient Movement/Access to care for Activated Compo 2/3 outpatient SM enterprise processes.
  6. Define Lifestyle Medicine and identify its six pillars.
  7. Explain how each pillar can be operationalized within the DHA outpatient case management workflow.
  8. Apply Lifestyle Medicine strategies to outpatient scenarios using assessment, education, SMART goals, care coordination, and follow-up.
  9. Define Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and explain its primary causes.
  10. Differentiate between TBI and mental health conditions, recognizing that they can present with similar symptoms but have different origins.
  11. Identify the multifaceted consequences of TBI by listing the common physical, cognitive, and emotional tolls associated with the injury.
  12. Explain the concept of TBI as an "energy-use disorder" and how it impacts a person's daily functioning.
  13. Describe the holistic and integrative approach to TBI treatment, including the various specialized therapies and support systems available for recovery.
