Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, and physician assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explore the changing landscape of critical care air transport.
  2. Convey the connection between your Military Treatment Facility (MTF) and critical care in the air.
  3. Summarize capability to transport Covid and other infectious disease patients with Negatively Pressurized Conex (NPCL).
  4. Measure the adequacy of burn resuscitation.
  5. Examine the anesthetic challenges of caring for burn patients in the operating room.
  6. Describe the incidence and risk of stroke after surgery in the beach chair position.
  7. Develop a plan to reduce the changes in cerebral oxygen delivery.
  8. Discuss anesthetic techniques that minimize postoperative risks of sleep apnea and opioid induced respiratory depression (OIRD) in patients.
  9. Asses the evidence supporting (or not) some contemporary alternative pain management techniques.
  10. Review Joint Trauma Service Clinical Practice Guidelines (JTSCPG) for pain, anxiety, and delirium.
  11. Differentiate between various forms of shock.
  12. Explain how venous afterload is an integral part to tissue perfusion in Gastric Ultrasound Point of Care Assessments (GU POCA).
  13. Identify uses for GU POCA.
  14. Describe the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) practice guidelines and recognize the limitations in daily clinical practice.
  15. Summarize the recent findings regarding cerebral blood oxygen delivery during surgery in the beach chair position.
  16. Discuss components of enhanced recovery that can be utilized in obstetrics (OB) practices everywhere.
  17. Define steps for optimizing quality of recovery.
  18. Compare various techniques for establishing labor analgesia.
  19. Utilize patient controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) and programmed intermittent epidural bolus (PIEB) for labor analgesia maintenance.
