Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care – Day 4: CBT, Holistic Approaches, Recovery Support Groups

This course provides essential training in the principles and application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary strategy for relapse prevention. Participants will begin by exploring the foundational principles of both behavioral and cognitive theories, which form the bedrock of the CBT model. The course examines the broader landscape of recovery support systems available to clients. It provides a detailed overview of various options, with a specific focus on the structure and philosophy of twelve-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for nurses, psychologists, social workers, and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the basic principles of behavioral theory.
  2. Identify the basic principles of cognitive theory.
  3. Describe key concepts of clinician role in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  4. Given the foundation apply cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles in relapse prevention.
  5. Identify physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual recovery skills.
  6. Identify various options for clients, to include the specifics of a twelve-step program IAW references listed.
  7. Match the support group with their acronym and/or description.
  8. Identify the importance of the role of spirituality in recovery.
