Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care – Day 2: Motivational Interviewing, Effects of Alcohol on the Body
This course provides comprehensive training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), a person-centered counseling method designed to enhance intrinsic motivation for change. Participants will explore the core components of MI, including its guiding "Spirit," the four fundamental tasks of Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning, and the essential OARS skills of open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries. The course provides critical knowledge on the physiological impact of alcohol. Participants will learn to describe the wide-ranging short-term and long-term effects of alcohol on the human body, providing a scientific foundation for understanding the health implications of substance use.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for nurses, psychologists, social workers, and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
