LTES: Bone-Anchored Limb Reconstruction in Amputees: Sockets to Osseointegration Cyborgs

Osseointegration/Bone-Anchored Limb surgery for amputees involves implanting a permanent bone-anchored device directly into the residual limb’s bone, allowing a prosthesis to attach via percutaneous componentry. Techniques typically include a two-stage approach—initial implant insertion followed by abutment placement after boney integration—or a single-stage method in which the entire procedure is completed. Research outcomes show improved prosthetic control, mobility, comfort, and sensory feedback (osseoperception) compared to socket systems, along with higher patient satisfaction and quality of life.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, kinesiotherapists, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
