Advance Pain Management Course Day 01
Day 1 (6.75 clock hours)
Target Audience
This CE activity is provided by the DHA J-7 Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and physical therapists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
1. Classify how the experience of pain is different than nociception.
2. Discuss the difference between acute and chronic pain states.
3. Define basic neuroanatomy and neuroplasticity in chronic pain to include central sensitization and peripheral sensitization.
4. Recognize the effect of allostatic load in chronic pain.
5. Explain the core-values in appropriate therapeutic relationships.
6. Outline therapeutic boundaries for patient and provider.
7. Use appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological modalities to address central sensitization syndrome.
8. Decide when specialty care referrals are appropriate.
9. Translate the VA/DoD LBP Clinical Practice Guidelines for appropriate LBP management..
10. Record the evidence and effects of biological comorbidities such as tobacco use, stress, obesity, and poor sleep on chronic pain.
