John Merkley, AuD, CCC-A, CPS/A
Dr. Andy Merkley is an occupational audiologist and research administrator with the DoD Hearing Center of Excellence. He retired from the Army after 31 years of service across the active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserves. Dr. Merkley completed a double degree program in Liberal Arts and Sciences and Communicative Disorders with minors in Portuguese and Music at Utah State University. He completed a Master of Science in Communicative Disorders from Utah State University, and a Doctor of Audiology from Central Michigan University. He holds the certificate of clinical competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a certified Course Director and Professional Supervisor (CPS/A) from the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC). He represents the Military Audiology Association on the CAOHC Council and currently serves as the council Chair. From August 2006 to December 2007 Dr. Merkley completed a combat deployment to Baghdad Iraq with the 28th Combat Support Hospital. Major assignments on active duty included installation hearing program manager, regional audiology consultant, and deputy audiology consultant to The Army Surgeon General. Dr. Merkley is recipient of the MAA Elizabeth Guild and Doug Ohlin awards for excellence in occupational audiology. He is active in the Military Audiology Association, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the National Hearing Conservation Association.
