May 2021 HS Nurses’ Week D02: We’re Stronger Together: A Collaboration to Support Military Families During COVID-19

Program Description

The COVID-19 pandemic produced significant challenges for military families. The TriService Nursing Research Program’s Military Family Interest Group (FIG) formed a collaboration with Blue Star Families, a civilian non-profit organization, to bring visibility to the challenges faced by military families during the pandemic. A series of weekly Pain Points Polls (PPP) were distributed online between March 18, 2020 and May 26, 2020. Findings from the PPP underscore the impacts of COVID-19 on military families and provide insight into areas where military families can be supported during these unprecedented times and in the aftermath.    

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of Physicians, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Social Workers, Certified Counselors, Healthcare Executives, and other health care professionals. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the challenges faced by military families as a result of COVID-19. 
  2. Examine the ways in which the pandemic has impacted military families as it relates to operational readiness, financial health, social support, physical and mental health, child behavior, utilization of family care plans, and general well-being. 
  3. Discuss how collaborations with public organizations can increase the power and reach for further research and policy recommendations.
