IDA F. AGAMY, LTC, U.S. Army retired, currently employed as Associate General Counsel, Defense Health Agency (DHA), Region Counsel, East and Europe MTF Operations, and is dual-hatted as the Southwest Georgia Lead Market Attorney, located at Fort Benning, GA.
Mrs. Agamy’s educational background consists of a Bachelor’s in Science (BS) degree from Armstrong State College, Savannah, Georgia, 1984; Juris Doctor (JD), University of Georgia, School of Law, 1987; 122d Judge Advocate Basic Course, 1990; Master of Laws in Military Law, LL.M., 48th Judge Advocate Graduate Course, 2000; and Command and General Staff College, 2002.
She is a member of the bars of the State of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Army Court of Criminal Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Lieutenant Colonel Agamy retired from active duty on 1 October 2008. Prior to her retirement, LTC Agamy was awarded the special skill identifier of Master Military Justice Practitioner.
She previously served as Deputy Command Judge Advocate and Senior Health Care Law Attorney, Office of the Command Judge Advocate, United States Army, Regional Health Command Europe (RHCE), Sembach, Germany; Chief, Criminal Law Division, V Corps, Heidelberg, Germany; Command Judge Advocate, Europe Regional Medical Command, Heidelberg, Germany; Senior Defense Counsel, U.S. Army Trial Defense Service, Fort Lewis, Washington; Chief of Criminal Law, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Commissioner on the Army Court of Criminal Appeals, Falls Church, Virginia; World-wide Training Officer for the U.S. Army Trial Defense Service, Falls Church, Virginia; Senior Trial Defense, U.S. Army Trial Defense Service, at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts; and Trial Counsel at Ft. Drum, New York. During her term as Trial Counsel, Lieutenant Colonel Agamy (then CPT Gibson) served as full-time Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and deployed to Sinai, Egypt, as the Task Force Staff Judge Advocate.
Lieutenant Colonel Agamy graduated the 48th Graduate Course in 2000 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Prior to being commissioned into the Army JAG Corps, Mrs. Agamy (then Ms. Gibson) clerked for two judges for the Superior Court of the Northern District of Georgia; served as public defender for five-county area in the Eastern District of Georgia; and was employed as an associate in the law firm of Bignault & Haas, Savannah, Georgia. Mrs. Agamy previously served on active duty as a Legal Clerk (71D) for the U.S. Army from 1976 through 1980, obtaining the rank of Specialist Five (E5) and then as a Legal Technician in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1980 through 1987, obtaining the rank of Technical Sergeant (E6).
Mrs. Agamy’s military awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal (7 awards); Army Commendation Medal (2 awards); Army Achievement Medal (2 awards); Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (2 awards); Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Service Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Award (two awards); Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Ribbon (two awards); Air Force Training Ribbon; Multinational Forces and Observers Medal; Small Arms - Expert (Rifle).
Mrs. Agamy’s civilian awards and decorations include: Commander’s Award for Civilian Service (2 awards).
Mrs. Agamy is married to her husband, Adel Agamy, and has two daughters, Deena (currently a Captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps) and Amiera.
