Womack Pharmacy: Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism

This activity is a part of the Womack Army Medical Center Pharmacy Monthly Training Series. This iteration will discuss management of acute pulmonary embolism.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recall the classic clinical symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and risk-stratification categories of acute pulmonary embolism (PE).
  2. Comprehend the mechanisms of action, dosing regimens, contraindications, and monitoring parameters for approved anticoagulants.
  3. Apply the appropriate initial and maintenance anticoagulant regimen and apply dose adjustments based on patient-specific factors.​​
  4. Analyze transitions of care plans and design an outpatient follow-up plan including safety monitoring.
