Womack Pharmacy: Beyond the Bladder: 2025 IDSA Complicated Urinary Tract Infection (cUTI) Guidelines

This activity is a part of the Womack Army Medical Center Pharmacy Monthly Training Series. This iteration will discuss Urinary Tract Infection (cUTI) guidelines.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the updated classifications of uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections (uUTI vs cUTI).
  2. Apply the IDSA Four Step approach to formulate evidence-based empiric treatment plans for cUTI.
  3. Interpret urine culture results and resistance patterns to select most appropriate definitive antimicrobial treatment options for cUTI.
  4. Identify Pharmacist-led Antimicrobial Stewardship (AST) opportunities for all points of care (Outpatient, Inpatient, ED).
