ForwardWinn ACH Grand Rounds: Management of Sepsis: What’s new in the Surviving Sepsis Campaign 2026 Guidelines
These Grand Rounds are aimed at offering high-quality, medically relevant presentations to healthcare workers throughout the Winn Army Community Hospital footprint. Grand Rounds takes place every third Thursday in the Patriot Auditorium and is video teleconferenced out to our Troop Medical Clinics. This activity allows our healthcare workers to improve clinical knowledge and patient outcomes. We present different topics with different presenters each month.

Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technicians across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the simultaneous pro-inflammatory (SIRS) and compensatory anti-inflammatory (CARS) host responses, glycocalyx breakdown, and cellular shock mechanisms.
- Apply the Sepsis Diagnostic Certainty Framework (Definite, Probable, Possible, Unlikely) and utilize validated physiological screening tools (NEWS/SIRS) over single qSOFA.
- Formulate targeted resuscitation protocols integrating 30 mL/kg balanced crystalloids within 3 hours, dynamic volume metrics, and new geriatric MAP targets (60–65 mm Hg for age ≥65).
- Execute immediate 1-hour antimicrobials for shock, Selective Digestive Decontamination (SDD) for ventilated patients, and hospital-wide quality improvement standard operating procedures.
