Program Description
This is part of the monthly Womack Army Medical Center’s (WAMC) Grand Rounds. The hour-long presentation is intended to update staff and students about medical science and to introduce them to new policies, practices, and opportunities available at WAMC or in military medicine. This event is open to all WAMC staff.
This live course will examine the use of intravenous iodinated contrast media in patients with kidney disease. The discussion is based on the joint publication from the American College of Radiology and the National Kidney Foundation.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, and physician assistants, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the joint statement endorsed by American College of Radiology (ACR) and National Kidney Foundation (NKF) to improve and standardize the care of patients with impaired kidney function who have indication(s) to receive intravenous iodinated contrast media.
- Recall the classification and staging for acute kidney injury (AKI).
- Describe the basic pathophysiology of contrast nephropathy.
- Explain iodinated contrast chemistry.
- Summarize the difference between contrast-induced AKI vs contrast-associated AKI.
