TBICoE: Application of the Acute Concussion Care Pathway

Program Description

As military healthcare providers care for patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), they must be equipped with appropriate tools for assessing and managing this unique type of injury. This internet live course, hosted by the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence, will inform providers on the Acute Concussion Care (ACC) Pathway as defined by the Defense Health Agency. This activity will provide an overview of military acute concussion assessment and care, demonstrating utility through a patient case study.

Target Audience

This CE/CME activity is accredited by the DHA, J-7, Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Athletic Trainers. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize concussion evaluation using the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation 2
  2. Describe the recovery protocol outlined in the Progressive Return to Activity Clinical Recommendation
  3. Identify clinical tools and resources developed by the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) to support concussion assessment and care
  4. Apply concussion management to patient case(s) by describing concussion evaluation and management, contrasting typical and atypical patients, and discriminating contributory factors to complex PRA patients. 
  5. Define and review the Acute Concussion Care Pathway
