The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Course for Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay 2024
Program Description
This live course is a neonatal educational program that focuses exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants. It employs the Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab work, Emotional Support (S.T.A.B.L.E.) Program which is a concise, directive tool to assist healthcare providers organize the myriad of details and interventions necessary to provide care to a sick and/or premature infant.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for: physicians and nurses. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
Day 1 (5.45 clock hours), 0730 – 1515 (ET)
- Summarize the process of neonatal adaptation to extrauterine life.
- Illustrate signs and symptoms of common neonatal complications.
- Outline appropriate care and interventions during newborn transition to extrauterine life.
- Explain standard of care on newborn transitional assessment and monitoring.
- Discuss prevention, identification, and management of neonatal hypoglycemia.
- Describe adaptive response of neonates to cold stress and techniques to prevent hypothermia.
- Summarize pathophysiology and management of respiratory distress and/or respiratory failure.
- Outline causes and treatments for hypovolemic, cardiogenic, and septic shock.
Day 2 (2.15 clock hours), 0800 – 1100 (ET)
- Summarize signs and symptoms, diagnostic testing, and antibiotic management for neonatal sepsis.
- Identify emotional interventions to support parents of sick infants.
- Describe elements of effective communication and teamwork to prevent harm and to improve patient safety.
