Program Description

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program was developed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers who must deliver an important stabilization care for newly born infants.  S.T.A.B.L.E. education is critical to the mission to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and to improve the future health of children and their families. It is the most widely distributed and implemented neonatal education program to focus exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support. A seventh module, Quality Improvement, stresses the professional responsibility of improving and evaluating care provided to sick infants.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, and physician assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Anticipate the needs of the newborn through understanding of how they adapt to life upon birth.
  2. Recognize the symptoms of failure to adapt to the new environment.
  3. Act appropriately to alleviate the symptoms as the newborn transitions to the new environment.
  4. Reassess and monitor the newborn in a timely manner based on standards of care.

    DHA J-7 CEPO has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 8.00 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Physician assistants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

    DHA J-7 CEPO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing education. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers will be provided a certificate of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers may receive a maximum of 8.00 hours for completing this activity.

    DHA J-7 CEPO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. DHA J-7 CEPO designated this activity for a maximum of 8.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

    The DHA, J-7, CEPO is accredited by the Joint Accreditation/ Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) to provide this Continuing Nursing Education for a maximum of 8.00 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
