Service Consultant Update

This course provides a comprehensive overview of nutrition and dietetics across the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Participants will explore the specific missions, organizational structures, and staffing models of each branch, including key leadership and consultant teams. The curriculum covers strategic priorities, operational capabilities, and the impact of major reorganizations, such as the AFMEDCOM shift and its relationship to the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Attendees will gain a clear understanding of where military dietitians are stationed and how their roles support readiness across the joint force.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for registered dieticians, dietetic technicians, occupational therapists, and occupational therapy assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

Army Nutrition Consultant Update​

  1. Identify the mission and vision the Army Nutrition and be able to identify the Nutrition and Dietitian consultant team.
  2. Explain the organization of the Army Nutrition community, where we are stationed, staffing, and types of positions.
  3. Describe two priority areas for the Army Nutrition and Dietetics specialty.

Air Force Nutrition & Dietetics Overview

  1. State the 5 areas of Dietetics that USAF (US Air Force) Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Diet Technicians (4Ds) most often are assigned.
  2. Summarize the significant changes affecting the Air Force Medical Service (AFMS).
  3. Describe how the Air Force Medical Command (AFMEDCOM) reorganization impacts how USAF medical personnel relate to the Air Force/installation structure; discuss how this change is related to organizational changes within Defense Health Agency (DHA).

  1. Explain the organization of the Navy dietetics community, where we are stationed, staffing, and resources we use.
  2. Comprehend Navy dietetics’ operational capabilities and how we are being utilized.
