RHCE: 2020 Fall Medical Surgical Conference: Optometry Track 23 NOV 2020

The Regional Health Command Europe (RHCE) Fall 2020 Medical Surgical Conference provides an educational forum which highlights and fosters innovative medical breakthroughs/best practices, provider updates on the latest evidence-based medicine, and exposes active duty staff to Individual Critical Task List (ICTL) training in a formal educational environment. As new and improved methods of practice, evidence and care are discovered, this conference allows our healthcare workers to have better opportunities to share and advance their practice and improve patient care. Embracing innovation allows our military providers to stay mission ready and benefits all patients in the European theatre.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, social workers, optometrists, counselors, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Comprehend what defines a profession.
  2. Identify how to get involved with your profession.
  3. Recognize the importance of patient history in the development of your differential diagnosis.
  4. Discuss differentials for a painful Horner’s Syndrome, including life threatening lesions.
  5. Identify how to diagnose Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy through case study.
  6. Know the indications for Corneal Collagen Crosslinking (CXL).
  7. Identify new and upcoming changes in pediatric eye care.
  8. Explain the lifelong impact of strabismus.
  9. Recognize current priorities and trends in Army Optometry to include: electronic health record, healthcare delivery policy and contact lens prescribing requirement.
  10. Summarize benefits like the optometry retention bonus.
