Learning Objectives

  1. Define the key components of the biomechanics of running. 
  2. Present an evidenced-based review of the research regarding the biomechanics of running. 
  3. Identify opportunities for injury prevention in novice and recreational runners. 
  4. Illustrate how to create an effective, evidence-based running class. 
  5. Explain how mood affects the autonomic nervous system function and thus task performance. 
  6. Identify how the autonomic nervous system regulates homeostasis and how intervention influences this system. 
  7. Describe manual therapy techniques and exercise prescription that can influence resting autonomic nervous system tone. 
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of the physical therapy management of knee osteoarthritis according to the best evidence. 
  9. Explain an understanding of the physical therapy management of patellofemoral pain according to the best evidence. 
  10. Apply these evidenced-based management strategies to your patients in the clinic.
