Program Description

The Resolve Through Sharing Bereavement Training: Perinatal Death is a live event providing education on how to support families experiencing miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, medical termination, and newborn death. The course provides standardized tools, sample policies and promotes multi-disciplinary care.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the role of interprofessional teams in caring for bereaved parents and families.
  2. Outline three theoretical frameworks that promote relationship-based bereavement support.
  3. Define relationship-based practice.
  4. Explain meaning-making and offering keepsake options using a guided participation approach.
  5. Summarize how mindful practice through ritual supports bereaved families and staff.
  6. Outline the integral role of a board-certified chaplain to an interprofessional bereavement approach.
  7. Model protecting, nurturing, and socializing when supporting bereaved parents.
  8. Describe the importance of follow-up support as a component of a bereavement standard of care.
  9. Illustrate self-care strategies for caregivers.
  10. Describe person-centered care through a diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism lens.
  11. Summarize concept of perinatal palliative care.
