PHCoE: Dropout Reduction from Outpatient Psychotherapy (DROP)
This live-virtual activity builds within helping professionals - including psychiatrists, social workers, and psychologists - the therapeutic alliance-enhancing and progress-informed treatment skills with which to bolster patients' engagement with treatment, thereby reducing the probability of premature termination from therapy.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Summarize the prevalence of premature discontinuation from therapy (dropout) among the general and military populations.
- Describe the consequences of dropout.
- Identify factors associated with dropout among the general and military populations.
- Explain the concept of Progress Informed Treatment, the evidence for it, and how it contributes to improving treatment alliance and reducing dropout.
- Recognize techniques to introduce Progress Informed Treatment to patients and identify how symptoms measured in BHDP can be utilized.
- Explain how formal assessment of the therapeutic alliance using the Working Alliance Survey contributes to improving treatment alliance and reducing dropout.
- Recognize techniques to introduce the Working Alliance Survey to patients and respond to the results.
