Pharmacogenomics

Program Description

The intended audience is all Military and DoD civilian prescribers with access to MilSuite. The educational tools are power-point presentations and competency quizzes which can be accessed via MilSuite and are designed to improve provider knowledge and understanding of precision medicine and pharmacogenomics. This will enable providers to prescribe appropriate medications in doses which are appropriate for the individual patient. This is a two part series of power-point presentations. They have been vetted by the Precision Care Advisory Panel, Pharmacogenomics working group.

Target Audience

Military and DoD civilian providers with access to MilSuite website.

Learning Objectives

Introduction to Pharmacogenomics

  1. Outline pharmacogenomics(PGx)
  2. Examine PGx impact on drug metabolism
  3. Identify PGx resources
  4. Correlate genotype to phenotype by calculating activity scores and assigning the correct phenotype based upon the allele variants
  5. Construct therapeutic recommendations based on guidelines

Pharmacogenomics  CYP2D6

  1. Recognize the different CYP2D6 allele variants and CYP2D6 phenotypes
  2. Calculate a CYP2D6 activity score
  3. Assign the correct phenotype based upon the activity score
  4. Create therapeutic recommendations for medications metabolized by CYP2D6 based on a patient's predicted CYP2D6 phenotype
