Program Description

Clinical Supervision is a critical component to the development of young professionals in the field of behavioral health, to include our military and civilian psychology technicians, as well as our Social Work Interns. Clinical Supervision fosters clinical and professional development and encourages personal growth in this complex field. Being an effective Clinical Supervisor requires multiple areas of knowledge: knowledge of area that is being supervised, knowledge of models/theories/modalities, knowledge of professional/supervisee development, knowledge of ethics and legal issues, and knowledge of evaluation. There are also specific skills and values that are important to consider in clinical supervision. There are multiple models of Clinical Supervision, to include Integrated Developmental Model and Competency-Based Model. These models will be further explained, and a role-play will occur during this training.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists and certified counselors.

  2. Summarize data to demonstrate the effectiveness of providing clinical supervision.
  3. Demonstrate skills to provide effective supervision, including relationships skills and providing effective feedback.
  4. Describe own values and beliefs and their impact on supervision modality.
