Orthopaedic Physician Assistant Introductory Course

Program Description

The course is designed to provide an introduction to orthopaedic medicine and establish and review didactic and clinical knowledge required by Physician Assistants in the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with chronic, acute, urgent, or emergent orthopaedic conditions.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physician assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize a philosophy in orthopaedic medicine regarding the evaluation and treatment of the emergency, acute, and chronic orthopaedic conditions.
  2. Outline core content of pathology related to orthopaedic medicine to include: evaluation and management of the orthopaedic trauma patient, thorough musculoskeletal physical exams, and fracture and dislocation reduction techniques.
  3. Assess pathology related to orthopaedic medicine including casting and splinting management, basic x-ray and advanced imaging evaluation, joint aspiration and injection with and without image guidance.
