Nutrition Support Guidelines and the Operational Nutrition Environment

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for dieticians and dietetic technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Compare and describe several American Society / European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN and ESPEN), and Canadian guidelines for nutrition support in critically ill patients.
  2. Identify patients at risk for refeeding and treat appropriately.
  3. Describe and implement practice recommendations for blenderized tube feedings.
  4. Apply critical care nutrition guidelines to various scenarios.
  5. Understand the potential roles of the dietitian in support of the operational nutrition environment.
