Navy Clinical Social Work Symposium: Introduction to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

This professional development symposium brings together Navy Clinical Social Workers to enhance clinical knowledge, share best practices, and strengthen collaborative approaches to mental health care within military settings. Participants will engage in interactive presentations and discussions focused on diverse patient populations, therapeutic interventions, and practice challenges. The activity also promotes networking, consultation, and the application of evidence-based practice.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for social workers and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Comprehend the impact of the unconscious and how it influences behavior,
  2. Identify the link between past experiences and how they impact behavior in the “Here and Now”.
  3. Outline serval defense mechanisms and how they protect the individual from distress.
  4. Discuss to identify how transferences and countertransference help and hinder the treatment relationship.
