Program Description

The Multi-Disciplinary Deployment Trauma Training is a live training that takes place at the Irwin Army Community Hospital, which lasts one and half days for interprofessional training for Army Soldiers. The purpose of this event is to increase Medical Readiness within the Irwin Army Community Hospital and Fort Riley Service Members in order to maintain individual critical readiness tasks and ensure a ready medical force. Day one of the training consists of didactic training, hands-on round robin, and day two is group simulations. They will be given two scenarios that will include the skills they learned the previous day. Topic areas include Trauma Assessment, Airway Management, Burns, Thoracic Trauma, Shock, Extremity Trauma, Head Trauma and Eye Injury. A maximum of 10.5 CEs are awarded to participants via Joint Accreditation.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize respiratory distress and airway compromise.
  2. Summarize Resuscitation Strategies
  3. Recognize and begin initial treatment for burn injuries with special circumstances.
  4. Describe the surgical and non-surgical treatment options for thoracic trauma
  5. Demonstrate the assessment and management of chest trauma.
  6. Review Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Definition of Shock.
  7. Outline guidelines and recommendations for casualties with severe head injury.
  8. Illustrate treatment and management of combat casualties with severe head injuries
