MPHRDS: How Do Active-Duty Army Personnel View the Relationships Between Firearms and Suicide? The Role of Sociopsychological Factors, Firearm Ownership Status, and Lifetime History of Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors

This activity improves understanding of how to use current research to inform clinical decision-making. Join the Psychological Health Center of Excellence (PHCoE) for a live-virtual event on August 28, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET. This activity is intended for military healthcare professionals across the Defense Health Agency and the Department of Defense. Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician associates/physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Summarize how perceptions about firearms and suicide risk are viewed in a sample of Army personnel.
  2. Identify which sociopsychological factors are associated with beliefs about firearms and suicide risk.
  3. Describe how findings from the current study can be used to inform military suicide prevention efforts.
