Military Refractive Surgery: Update, Technology and the Future

Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, optometrists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Review historical and current parameters for patient selection, surgical modality selection and laser options.
- Differentiate military readiness, current branch and MOS requirements for eligibility and candidacy for refractive surgery.
- Explain the clinical treatment and management of refractive surgery complications
- Discuss the most recent capabilities for treatment of keratoconus and corneal ectasia, highlighting pre- and post-operative care.
- Summarize combat support information reported to the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB) Defense Medical Surveillance System (DMSS) regarding the results of the 18-year surveillance of corneal ectasia data.
