MAMC Pharmacy Series: Weight Loss through the VA/DoD

Overview

This live, in-person activity is intended to provide an update to current disease state management for weight loss at the pharmacy department to update and support pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to have the most up-to-date information due to the new class of medications GLP1s that have significantly changed the management of weight loss. It will be presented at the pharmacy department for a period of 1 hour. Other professions may attend and gain benefit from this update.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define clinically meaningful weight loss.
  2. Recognize the basis for the current VA/DoD clinical practice guideline for the management of adult overweight and obesity 2020.
  3. Identify TriCare coverage and the agents that are available for weight loss both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical.
  4. Explain the differences, risks and benefits of the new GLP-1/GIP agents for weight loss.
  5. Describe role in counseling and patient care.
