ForwardLTES: Prosthetic Treatment for Patients Undergoing GLP-1 Medication Therapy
This webinar will explore the clinical impact of GLP-1 medications on individuals with limb loss, including rapid weight loss, limb volume changes, and prosthetic management considerations. Attendees will review original research, real-world case studies, and multidisciplinary treatment strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants/associates, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the mechanisms of action, indications, and common side effects of GLP-1 and dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist medications and their relevance to prosthetic patient care.
- Identify the clinical implications of GLP-1-associated weight loss, including limb volume fluctuations, socket fit changes, skin integrity concerns, and treatment modifications necessary to optimize prosthetic outcomes.
- Apply evidence-based documentation, multidisciplinary communication, and reimbursement strategies to support medical necessity and improve outcomes for patients undergoing rapid weight loss while using prosthetic devices.
