Program Description

The JMESI Capstone Course is a pinnacle educational event for senior leaders in the Military Health System (MHS). Speakers include but are not limited to, the Service Surgeons General, senior leaders and staff from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Director DHA, the Surgeon General of the U.S., and the Department of Veterans Affairs. They present the most current information on issues such as hot topic health issues, HRO, TRICARE, military transformation, policy, and legislation.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, dentists, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss case studies in the application of the principles of the medical dimensions of warfare.
  2. Describe how logistical considerations affect warfighter and medical operations.
  3. Identify the top priorities of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Leadership.
  4. Discuss Health Affairs and Defense Health Agency (DHA) health budgets and financial policies.
  5. Describe how MHS GENESIS standardizes clinical and business processes across the services and the Military Health System (MHS).
  6. Describe current Health Affairs and DHA health services and oversight policies.
  7. Describe the benefits of the DHA Transition.
  8. Explain how DHA Headquarters Reorganization will improve execution and the evolving role of the Assistant Director for Support.
  9. Identify Program Executive Office for Medical Systems/Chief Information Officer (PEO MS/CIO) (J-6) products/services and their supporting processes.
  10. Explain the capabilities of the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Health Care Operations (HCO).
  11. Describe the responsibilities of the divisions of the DAD-HCO.
  12. Adapt leadership roles and styles as appropriate to the situation.
  13. Describe DHA’s combat support functions.
  14. Identify the communication goal and develop a message to achieve the end state.
  15. Discuss the DHA-led effort to transform the MHS into a high reliability organization (HRO).
  16. Discuss current issues in Coast Guard Medicine.
  17. Discuss current issues in U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Medicine.
  18. Discuss the DHA’s focus on standardization of the clinical and business Care-Pathways and use of evidence-based practices.

    DHA, J-7, CEPO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing education. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers will be provided a certificate of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. ACCME Non-Physician CME Credit providers may receive a maximum of 15.75 hours for completing this Course activity.
  • 15.75 Healthcare Executives (ACHE)
    By attending this program offered by DHA, J-7, CEPO, participants may earn up to 15.75 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Qualified Education hours toward initial certification or recertification of the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) designation. Participants in this program who wish to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit must self-report their participation. To self-report, participants must log into their MyACHE account and select ACHE Qualified Education Credit.
