Program Description

This course is a Tri-Service event designed for first time clinical supervisors. The course provides them with the administrative tools to successfully manage their clinical areas. Topics discussed include:

-Civilian Personnel
-Contracting
-Budgeting
-Quality Management
-Tools available through the TRICARE Operations Center
-Efficient Scheduling and Utilization Management
-And more

One of the additional benefits to the attendees is the interaction that takes place among the group. Panel discussions allow the clinicians to ask direct questions and receive first-hand answers regarding management tools and practices that are or have the potential to impact the military health care management arena.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and healthcare executives. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

  3. Describe the history and guiding principles of high reliability organizations (HRO) and their applications to military healthcare.

  5. Explain the TRICARE program and its health plans.
  6. Describe the process of procuring a government contract.

  1. Summarize when a new Position Description (PD) is needed and how they are classified.
  2. Summarize the roles of the DHA Human Resources Oversight Branch.
  3. Describe supervisor rights, and responsibilities.
  4. Identify common types of leave.
  5. Impose discipline to address employee misconduct.
  6. Describe Disability Evaluation System (DES) Purpose, Background and Key Elements.

  1. Define the Performance Planning Process.
  2. Describe Defense Health Agency (DHA) market structure and roles.
  3. Illustrate how the DHA Strategy is executed through Performance Planning.
  4. Describe how medical readiness is supported through Performance Planning.
  5. Describe the structure and capabilities of the Healthcare Optimization Division.

  1. Describe health care surveys available to Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries, veterans and TRICARE Members.
  2. Summarize the purpose and intent of locally managed surveys.
