JKO DHA US333 VA DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of PTSD and Acute Stress Disorder: An Overview of the Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of PTSD and ASD

Program Description

This course is designed for health care providers involved in the care of service members or veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or acute stress disorder (ASD) and draws from evidence-based information and guidance contained within the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of PTSD and ASD and related conditions. The major components of the guideline are outlined and key considerations and recommended steps for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of PTSD and ASD are discussed. Additional VA/DoD clinical support tools and resources for use when caring for patients with PTSD are identified.

The learner must complete the activity and pass the posttest in JKO prior to claiming CE credit. (https://jko.jten.mil/). The Access Code to register for the course will be provided upon completion of the course in JKO.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, and psychologists. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the intended use and major components of the Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense (VA/DoD) Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG).
  2. Describe the approach to care of patients with PTSD within the VA and DoD healthcare systems.
  3. Outline the key considerations and recommended steps for the management of Acute Stress Reaction (ASR) and Acute Stress Disorder (ASD).
  4. Explain the key considerations and recommended steps for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of PTSD.
  5. Provide an overview of the evidence-based treatments for PTSD to recommend and/or provide to patients with PTSD.
  6. Utilize available VA/DoD clinical support tools and resources to care for patients with PTSD.
