Target Audience

The course is designed to provide health care personnel administering the Periodic Health Assessment basic knowledge on the new standard.

Learning Objectives

1. Define the mission and purpose of the Department of Defense(DoD) Periodic Health Assessment (PHA) Program. 

2. Describe the three progressive parts of the DoD PHA. 

3. Distinguish the roles of health care personnel trained in DoD PHA and Mental Health Assessment (MHA) specific processes. 

4. Review the process for the Service members questions and responses (Part A) portion of the DoD PHA. 

5. Summarize the process and requirements for conducting the record review and recommendation (Part B) portion of the DoD PHA. 

6. Discuss MHA features, areas, and processes. 

7. Analyze Service member self-reported responses to the behavioral health questions. 

8. Compile key assessment tools and referral options for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol use, and other mental health concerns. 

9. Explain the process for conducting the health care provider review and recommendation (Part C) portion of the DoD PHA. 

10. Illustrate the DoD PHA completion and disposition process.
