Immunization Healthcare Division-South Atlantic Regional Vaccine Safety HUB: "Highlights of the ACIP General Best Practice Guidelines for Immunizations"

Program Description

General Best Practice Guidelines for Immunizations is a two-hour lecture designed to educate health care personnel who administer immunizations in different health care settings. This training will review the following evidence-based treatments in immunization administration:  (1) timing and spacing of immunobiologics, (2) contraindications and precautions, (3) preventing and managing  adverse reactions, (4) vaccine administration, (5) storage and handling of immunobiologics, (6) altered immunocompetence (7) special situations (8) immunization records, (9) immunization programs and (10) immunization information sources.  An assessment of the risks and benefits of immunizations, accurate administration and delivery of  effective strategies to improve and increase vaccination coverage will also be discussed.

Participants attending this educational activity will be able to share the importance of immunizations to reduce the effects of vaccine-preventable diseases. 

Target Audience

This (CE) activity is provided by the DHA J-7 Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Justify the importance of preventing vaccine-preventable diseases with immunizations during each patient visit without referring to the ACIP General Best Practices.
  2. Demonstrate the highest quality of immunization healthcare during each patient visit by applying ACIP General Best Practices.
  3. Comprehend optimal vaccination coverage strategies when educating patients about immunizations during a patient visit.
  4. Explain the common concerns associated with immunizations when educating patients about immunizations during a patient visit.
