Program Description

This presentation is provided and required by DHA to improve the healthcare providers knowledge regarding when and what information to disclose to patients and when toconsult with Special Assistant for Healthcare Resolutions to meet DHA policy standards of practice. Specifically, the knowledge of when and how to discuss sensitive topics related to adverse care delivery. The providers/care team members who interact with patients will be provided information on how to consult and communicate with impacted individuals and be able to implement in everyday practice.

Target Audience

This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, psychologists, dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, athletic trainers, registered dieticians, dietetic technicians, certified counselors, kinesiotherapists, healthcare executives, audiologists, physical therapists, and physical therapist assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. List three examples (reasons) that they should consider case consulting their Special Assistant for Healthcare Resolutions.
  2. Recognizes four critical core elements common to most patient/provider disclosure encounters. 
  3. Identify and describe information that should not be disclosed in a patient/provider disclosure session.
  4. Describe the importance of disclosing of factual clinical information as soon as possible.
