Healthcare Provider Peer Support Training: Support through Transparency and Understanding
Program Description
The WAMC Peer Support Team remains available for healthcare provider support after adverse events or unanticipated patient outcomes with a common goal of changing a culture of medicine from deny and defend to one of transparency and understanding. This training prepares clinicians to appropriately support one another during times of great stress; encouraging a culture of mutual respect, trust and teamwork. Studies show that burnout and shame from adverse events can negatively impact clinicians, teams and institutions and consequently, the quality and safety of patient care.
