HCE: Military Vestibular Treatment Technician Course
This course features didactic and laboratory instruction covering introduction to peripheral vestibular anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology; treatment of vestibular hypofunction, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and other disorders of the peripheral vestibular system; and special considerations and return to duty decision making for the military population.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for occupational therapist assistants and physical therapist assistants. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Identify key components of the vestibular system and their role in detecting motion
- Describe normal vestibular ocular reflex (VOR)
- Describe impairments to the VOR and implications for symptoms
- Describe the process by which the body can compensate for an impaired VOR
- Perform dynamic visual acuity testing on a partner
- Perform Functional Gait Assessment on a partner
