HCE Collaborative Auditory and Vestibular Research Network (CAVRN) Hearing Protector Fit Testing: Research to Practice
Hearing protector fit testing (HPFT) is an occupational hearing loss prevention strategy that trains DoD personnel on how to properly insert hearing protectors and ensure they provide adequate protection for their work environment. Currently, more information and guidance are needed to implement HPFT as a routine part of selecting and evaluating hearing protection in the DoD hearing conservation program.
The annual Collaborative Auditory Vestibular Research Network webinar hosted by DHA’s Hearing Center of Excellence focuses on the study and implementation of HPFT in the DoD. It begins with an introduction to HPFT and related policy. Then, military and DoD-funded scientists share detailed information about their recent and ongoing research, including specific outcomes and objectives to support the effective clinical implementation of HPFT per DODI 6055.12. The webinar concludes with an exploration of implementation challenges and goals.
