Forensic Healthcare Competency Training 2026

This activity expands the skillset of forensic healthcare professionals ensuring the highest level of care with improved outcomes for patients with a chief complaint of assault and abuse. This annual competency includes enhancing examiner knowledge while reinforcing skill sets. Presentations from subject matter experts in forensic healthcare and supporting agencies provide validation of annual competency and ensure participants maintain knowledge, current information and best practice.

Target Audience

This CE/CME activity is accredited by the DHA J-7 Continuing Education Program Office (CEPO). This activity provides continuing education for physicians, nurses, and physician associates/physician assistants across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assess forensic patients’ needs based on presentation after medical clearance by emergency department provider.
  2. Recognize the variety of traumatic responses possible in patients.
  3. Interpret patient concerns into comprehensive assessment.
  4. Develop a forensic exam based upon FHE assessment.
  5. Recognize legal and judicial concerns for specimen collection in developing forensic exam for individual patients.
