Family Advocacy Staff Training Advanced Course - Prevention
This advanced prevention training course will equip clinical staff with evidence-based strategies to recognize, address, and prevent abuse within military settings. Participants examined risk factors, relationship dynamics, trauma-informed approaches, and public health prevention models while exploring practical interventions that support client safety and readiness.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for nurses, social workers, psychologists, and certified counselors across the Military Health System (MHS). A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Prevention’s Mission.
- Differentiate between awareness campaigns and skill-building activities.
- Identify a resource for implementing an effective prevention activity.
- Explain the role of collaboration in developing effective prevention strategies.
- Summarize how the fatality reviews process shifts the focus from individual incidents responses to identifying systemic gaps and trends.
- Apply the Public Health Approach to prevention approach and strategies through mock fatality reviews.
- Identify individual behavior that contributes to conflict in relationships.
- Outline skills to help individuals and couples implement healthy behaviors to minimize the risk of conflict and abuse.
- Discuss conflict resolution models and safety planning strategies to their clients.
- Analyze the impact of limited staffing on client service delivery and program outcomes.
- Identify effective strategies and services that support care delivery in a resource-limited environment.
- Explain how drug misuse affects the immature brain and define high potency THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).
- Identify loopholes regarding synthetic cannabinoids.

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. Participants may earn 19.00 CE credits for completing this activity.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, DHA J7 CEPO is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit.
