Dietary Supplements and Operation Supplement Safety
Program Description
Registered dietitians are the nutrition experts, however keeping up with the dietary supplement industry is a challenge. The same holds true for allied health care professionals. This presentation sets a foundation for understanding key topics related to dietary supplements, understanding labeling, understanding high risk dietary supplements, and the potential for adverse events or reactions from dietary supplements. As a health professional recognizing the signs for an adverse event due to dietary supplement consumption and how to report an adverse event.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for registered dieticians and dietetic technicians. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

- Describe how dietary supplements (DS) are regulated
- Discuss key topics related to dietary supplements
- Explain how Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) is educating Service Members about dietary supplements
- Review DoDI 6130.06: Use of Dietary Supplements in the DoD and substances on the DoD Prohibited Dietary Supplement Ingredients List
