This training will be required for behavioral health providers in the Military Health System and will provide a review of requirements for behavioral health providers consistent with DOD 6310.09. Guidance will also be provided on trauma-informed care, gender-sensitive care and evidence-based treatment. Training will provide detailed recommendations on documentation of sexual assault disclosure.
Target Audience
This activity provides continuing education for physicians, social workers, psychologists, certified counselors. A certificate of attendance is available for other attendees.

- Define sexual assault, abuse, and categories of reporting.
- Summarize key policy, describe behavioral health care provider responsibilities and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Explain how to appropriately address the patient’s behavioral health needs using evidence-based treatment.
- Identify gender-sensitive, inclusive and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Implement recommendations for protective documentation of sexual assault and summarize clinically-relevant exceptions to military rules of evidence.
- Encapsulate available support and resources for individuals who disclose sexual trauma.
- Identify vicarious trauma and describe health provider self-care strategies.
